Onegin
Of course I saw Onegin! And I like it! Yes, it has flaws, but they relate only to design and mismatch of music early 19th century.
As far as typecasting, playing the actors and the atmosphere - it's great. The movie is made with love, in the "Russian spirit". Onegin, played by Ralph gained the depth and scope, it seemed that he did not communicate with other characters, actors and... talk with you. In my opinion, even among Russian actors no one would be better in this role as he. His Onegin is cold, self-love, pathos... and at the end of the movie madly in love. Just excellent! I was impressed. Ralph is best Onegin! Liv Tyler is a very beautiful actress. And in this movie played very well. She's a real Tatiana. Such a timid, constrained and young early in the film. And such a lovely, already more liberated in that period when she falls in love with Onegin.
Watching this film, I even took to re-read Onegin. And I realized what really is unfortunate: the fact that Ralph read and understand it only in translation. Pushkin was indeed a genius, he wrote the great works of stunning style, which can’t be transferred nor any translation. It's like for the Russian - Shakespeare. Who do not speak English perfectly (like me, for example) will never be able to assess the great English classic to the end.

I read the reviews in RUnet, and also talked with some people who saw Onegin and, in most Russian think Fiennes's version is.... funny. I'm Russian too, but I do not just do not think so, but really I think is very worthy adaptation! And besides, I often wonder: I wonder what would have thought the Englishry about the Russian productions of English classics?...........

Dorli, of course, to Englishman (and not only) it is difficult to understand the "mysterious Russian soul" and Russian people is sometimes difficult to understand - West or East. But you're absolutely right: the language of movies must be universal, especially if it's a classic. Is necessary to adapt to all, and not just for one nation.

Onegin film was a difficult purchase for me, I liked it, but my impression is that it was a problem of adapting the script, do not know the literature nor Russian nor English, but I think the language of the films have to be universal, but what I always take into consideration is the performance of it! That is why I like both of Spider, I think is a problem that is seen everywhere and that Ralph was fantastic performance! Many cite Land and Blind as a film that did not like, though I spent most of my life under the dictatorship and the insane plans of governments that never worked, I liked the movie! I could not understand two movies: The Avengers and the In Bruges, was a hard compression of history!

I think your English is fine.......it is indeed tragic that those of us who do not speak Russian can really appreciate the works of Pushkin, but we enjoy them nevertheless.....someworks cross all boundaries of time and place,,,,,,I think that Ralph's interpretation will probably be shown to students for a long , long time as the benchmark.....there is something especially tragic about this cold, cold man who has no empathy for others, yet seeks to find it for himself.....perhaps the duel was the almighty's ultimate mercy.....
